The Poor Clare Sisters in Drumshanbo are an enclosed contemplative religious community, committed to living the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ. We try to keep alive the living flame of the spirit of St. Francis and St. Clare. Though you will find the same simple and joyous spirit in any Poor Clare monastery, each community has its own uniqueness and charisma that distinguish it from other communities. The special Apostolate of Drumshanbo community is Perpetual Adoration. The Eucharist is the centre and most important part of our life.

We were founded 150 years ago in 1864.Our founders originally had tried to start a foundation in London. They soon ran into many difficulties. When an offer to make a foundation in Gorey, Ireland, was made, they accepted. All went well in Gorey until the family that had brought them over, ran into financial difficulties. They had to move several times, before they eventually settled in Drumshanbo, where they were given land and welcomed by the people of the locality. Here, they continue to flourish until the present day.

Eucharistic Adoration was first started in Ireland in Drumshanbo

In 1870, Perpetual Adoration was established. This marked the establishment of Perpetual Adoration for the first time anywhere in Ireland. For almost 150 years now, the Adoration has continued. Until recently, it was Adoration throughout the night and day. However, with reduced numbers in the community, we have had to discontinue a few hours during the night.

Could God be calling you to fill these vacant hours?
